What does that mean to you? In poker, it means you have
so much confidence in the hand you've been dealt that you're willing to risk everything you've got because you believe you can't lose.
Did you ever stand at the edge, wanting to jump, but afraid, as your dad, or some other trusted adult stood below and beckoned you..."come on...I'll catch you...don't worry...I'm right here..."
My children did that on the stairs. Jumping from the top into daddy's waiting arms on the landing. Frightening, to be sure, but wow, what a rush! I recall so clearly their little faces as they stood there...debating with themselves..."maybe just come up one step Daddy...Okay...here I go...I'm fixin too...no, no, don't go Daddy, I really
want to this time" The anticipation, the dread, the adrenaline, the unknown, and then it happens...you can see it in their eyes as they steel themselves and the moment of truth arrives.
At that point, and not a moment before, they are 'all in'. The muscles coil, the little legs spring, and then, for the briefest of glorious moments, they are airborne as surely as an eagle soaring through a cool morning breeze. "MOM!!! I JUST JUMPED ALL THE WAY TO THE LANDING!!! JUST ONE MORE TIME DADDY...PLEASE?!?"
Everyone has "all in" moments in life don't we? That "all in moment" has been on my mind lately. That moment when you know...you just know...you're jumping and nothing is going to stop you. To me, all in means I'm holding nothing back. I've committed myself to this course and will not be changed.
There is the obvious link to me to the idea of being all in for Christ, but the more I contemplate it, the more convinced I am that being all in is all too often the missing piece of the puzzle in any area of my life. As I was writing this blog, my thoughts carried me to many diverse places, "chasing rabbit trails" as they say, so I have decided that I'll put my thoughts on this in a series of posts on the subject. Stay tuned...with this in mind:
